About Course

Purpose

To introduce young learners to foundational Black history concepts through age-appropriate instruction, storytelling, guided discussion, and interactive learning.

Outcome

Students gain a structured introduction to Black history, cultural pride, and historical literacy appropriate for early learners.

Annual Curriculum: Quarterly Themes

  • Q1 (January to March): Ancient African Civilizations. Kemet (Egypt), Kush & Nubia, Mali Empire, Songhai Empire, Axum & Ethiopia: origins of human civilization, science, philosophy, and governance.
  • Q2 (April to June): The African Diaspora. Transatlantic Slave Trade, resistance movements, Maroon societies (Jamaica, Brazil, Suriname), abolitionists, freedom fighters, and cultural retention across the diaspora.
  • Q3 (July to September): The Black Freedom Movement. Reconstruction & its betrayal, Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Movement, Black Power, Pan-Africanism, and the global struggle for African liberation.
  • Q4 (October to December): Contemporary Black Excellence. Black scientists, inventors, artists, politicians, economists; Global Africana studies; reparations discourse; contemporary African nations; building Black futures.
